an ode to C.Green…and Buckhead Church
today i drove south to the ATL and met up with my friends at Buckhead Church. okay, i really only have one friend there, Chris Green. so i met with Chris and his friends.
and it was amazing
Chris and i have been friends since 9th grade. that’s a lonnnggg time.
my top five favorite memories of Chris?
1. Back row of freshman english, paying no attention whatsoever, thinking we were way too cool for the competitive nerd-os who dominated all the discussions. (we were.) all i learned that year was the debate flip. yeah. cause i’m definitely not a nerd or anything.
2. Physics, when Chris and I shared a table and he decided to become obsessed with Katie McIver. he put a framed picture of her on our table every day and stared at it during class. what the heck? um…now she’s his wife. i admire his perseverance.
3. AP U.S. History….didn’t exactly make a good grade in that class, but we sure had fun heckling the teacher. Chris colored obscene words with highlighters and enjoyed passing them down the row.
4. Jeff’s house. Swimming pool, black lights, psychedelic fluorescent posters, Fatboy Slim…let’s just say I’m thankful we knew Jesus. (and therefore, mom, did nothing inappropriate.)
5. Playing Time of Your Life at graduation. Ha. I sucked. Chris did not. And he was gracious enough to cover for me.
Speaking of graciousness, Chris and his friends totally made this input-driven church-planting tech-nerd’s day today. I toured their incredibly rockstar facility and got to ask their audio and video folks specific questions…people who actually know what they’re doing!!! Highlight of my summer, seriously. Even though there was no Carlos sighting….it’s okay. Because his team is the most selfless, generous, brilliant, loving group of folks ever. You could feel the chemistry between the staff when you walked in the door, and they all seemed genuinely glad to answer questions and talk shop. I see why they do things with such excellence!
The main purpose for my visit was to talk audio, and there are all sorts of exciting things on the horizon for audio at The Vine. Well, it starts at The Vine, but will then spread to other churches in the form of audio training classes for sound volunteers! (and church staff who need to know how to run sound!) So….go ahead and be excited about that.
I’ll give you the info as soon as I know.
Thank you, Chris and Buckhead Church, for being Kingdom-minded and humble enough to take time out of your day to answer questions from people like me.
I sincerely appreciate it.

Bummed I couldn’t be there. Glad you got the love though.
Come back again and I’ll try to rep.
