Authenticity, Doing Church, Randomness, Worship Design, Tech Nerds Are CoolNovember 30, 2008 10:45 pm

because today was a crazy day at theVine. yesterday our internet was out all day (random) so i got to church around 6:30am to double check all the lyrics and scriptures online. Ken & Laura met me at 7:30 (thanks guys!) to put together a kickin’ new wooden table and stools, arrange our fun faux candles, and change the lights to green & red gels. Nick had already gotten all the cool metal stars hung and wired (which, p.s., he made. they were originally brown, and did not contain holes, or lights… Nick rocks.)

sometime during all of that, David woke up sick. like too sick to preach. so we quickly figured out how Gregg could explain the series and topic for the day, and Jason (who made it to Braselton from Loganville in 20 minutes?!?) could explain our Christmas mission project with the Garden, a shelter for homeless women and children….and everything worked out great! you’d have thought that was the plan all along. :)

during the first song of the first service the ProPresenter computer completely froze. (come on Maddox! you can’t fail me like that!) it took us the opening song + half a worship song to get the computer restarted and working, but Gregg acted like we planned it and did the whole quickly-tell-the-next-lines worship-leader thing, (thanks, GG,) and Robbie and James continued getting their rockstar tech-nerd on.

during the first worship set a large glass hurricane fell off a platform and shattered across the stage….not awesome. i used my sneaky fox skills and ganked the candle, and Jeannette helped me clean up all the glass between services. there were a million tiny shards of glass, so we resulted to trying to stick it to pieces of gaff tape…i think we got it. but i wouldn’t walk up there barefoot.

this afternoon i got a text that our website had disappeared and said the domain name was for sale. um…WHAT? yeah. eventually i got to the bottom of that one, but not before our site was down for about 4 hours…not cool.

sounds like insanity, huh? the weird thing is i love it. no seriously, i LOVE it. i mean, i don’t love that any of those negative situations occurred, but i love trying to think on my feet and fix them. that’s one of the coolest things about working at theVine…you never know what the day may hold! sometimes the “other duties as assigned” are quite unpredictable. i woke up at 4:45 am this morning and couldn’t go back to sleep because i was so excited about today….set changes and new series get me all fired up….and i just prayed that God would get people out of bed, in the rain, and bring them to theVine with receptive hearts so they could experience Him! maybe Satan didn’t like that possibility….but he didn’t win! as waited for it to be a decent time to get up, i just kept thinking how thankful i was (am!) to have the chance to get to serve in a way that’s so fun and exciting…

it’s cool with me, however, if next week’s relatively calm.

my friend…okay, i’ve never actually met her, but this lady who’s cool and has a blog…has a series of posts called, “he’s two, part _____.” they’re quite hilarious. but Tanner’s not even two yet! i think we’re in trouble. her new thing is climbing, and decorating the house for Christmas was almost more trouble than it was worth. i kept catching a glimpse of this:

and within 3 seconds she was here, grinning at me and laughing! i seriously got her down more than 20 times.

she’s just so stinkin cute…i couldn’t even act frustrated because i kept laughing! :D

Do you remember this story from childhood?
ONE LITTLE…

TWO LITTLE…

THREE LITTLE INDIANS!!!

We are so very thankful for our growing family. :D
Check out this video to see how we told our parents…
And Happy Thanksgiving to You!

I’m so thankful for my family. :D

Friends, Seeing Jesus, Tech Nerds Are Cool 11:22 pm

Tonight we had the privilege of meeting Mr. Landon Jones! Landon is an incredible miracle, and we are so excited that God chose Kris & Jessica to be Landon’s parents! We’ve been praying for little Landon since way before he was even conceived… it’s so exciting to hold him, hear his sweet baby noises, and rub his little head… God answers prayers!

Tanner kept saying “baby!” “baby!”

Sweet boy…

And I went ahead and started teaching Landon about ProPresenter. We’re training him up right and he already loves Macs. Landon’s going to lead the next generation of the technology team at theVine!

Congratulations Kris and Jessica. He is absolutely perfect!

Thoughts on picturing…
A) I have no idea how people with a million kids manage to make it to photo sessions with all outfits, accessories, and children in tow. It took us 2 hours to get everything together, and we still forgot the kids’ shoes for the “brown & pink” theme.
B) Getting a 17-month-old to sit still and play the photography game is virtually impossible. Even with two parents and two grandparents clapping, whistling, acting silly, etc…she did as she pleased.
C) The people who take pictures of children in commercial photo-mill type places have excessive patience. I don’t know how they do it. Screaming kids, impatient parents, families lined up out the door….I’d lose my mind.
D) I heart Portrait Innovations. Yes, I’d love to get rockstar pictures taken by some of the cool photographers I admire, but I can go to Portrait Innovations and get a gazillion printed sheets AND the photo CD for less than the cost of a fancy-photo session fee alone. (Basically, I’m cheap. Because I got Dave Ramsied.)

So, with that being said, here’s the outcome:

These were more typical:

They make me laugh. I love taking pictures. I love looking at pictures. And though Nick isn’t fond of this game, I love it when our outfits coordinate. :) Therefore, it was a good day.

Tanner learned a new trick today, and for some reason she thought it was hilarious! Here’s a glimpse of 80 seconds of a typical evening with The Moon Team…we love it. :D She’s started saying “Tanner,” too! (it’s actually more like “Tan-ter.”)
